Quick post for today. All we really did was drive from Hervey Bay down to the Gold Coast. The park we’d planned to stay in turned out to be booked out (read, didn’t want to honor our voucher so told us they were booked out!). Thus, we went a bit further and got a better deal in a better park. Funny how that works out sometimes.
Tweed Billabong Holiday Park is a little further along the freeway than we’d like to be, but its not really an issue. We got an ensuite site again. The park has a huge billabong for the kids to swim and canoe on, as well as a pool with waterslides. Plenty of space to ride the bikes, etc. For the icing on the cake we got 4 nights for the price of 3 … and then we got the Big4 discount too. Very happy with the way that worked out.
Our trip down the freeway and thru Brisbane all the way to Tweed Heads wasn’t without incident. I managed to clip the awning on a power pole. Only going at walking pace, but have still managed to bend the frame and tear the fabric. Grrrr. Should be easily sorted out once we get back. It still works, just looks like its been thru hell … which I guess it has.
We put in a short stop at the Ettamogah Pub for a snack and refreshment.
The big surprise of the trip for us was learning that the iconic Big Pineapple has gone into receivership and been sold off. The place is closed up and security are keeping people away. The nut train has been sold. The rest of the place looks like it is being refurbished into ‘something’ though so I’m sure it’ll be back and bigger and better than ever soon enough.
