One Thousand Six Hundred and Forty Three … Yep, that’s right 1643 I tell you !!!
We woke this morning at 5:30 … had a luxurious sleep in until 6 and then were on the road at 7:45. Last day in WA and we never really adjusted to the time change.
Crossing over the border into the Northern Territory we had most of the car clocks change over time automatically, which caused a little confusion. The GPS was telling us we’d be at Timber Creek at 12:00 and it was about 100 km away and only 9am on the car clock. The brain took a little while to ‘go click’ and figure it all out.
We were due to have a Jayco Nomads meeting at Timber Creek so we were getting a little anxious as we got closer and closer. Just as we arrived in town the familiar dulcet tones of Char came over the CB loud and clear.
1643? Oh, yeah, forgot about that. We’ve been counting the caravans, campers and motorhomes we’ve had pass us going the other way and given the ‘caravanners wave’ to. Today we started at 1593 and when we saw Dave & Char coming the other way we tagged them 1643. We ended the day at 1674. There’s a lot of travelers out here.
Anyway, we hooked up with Dave and Char and had a Nomads camp meeting and discussed our travels. We’ve just been where Dave & Char are headed and vice-versa so it was good to sort each other out.
It’s a bit freaky catching up all the way out here in the middle of nowhere, so we made plans to meet up at Xmas on more familiar territory in Ballarat.
Continuing towards Katherine we found a little roadside stop to have lunch in. Naturally there was a geocache there to be found … unfortunately a small brown snake seemed intent on keeping it to himself. No problem, at all … he can have it.
We ended up getting in to Katherine at about 5:30 and set up in record time. The park here is really good. No gates, no keys, no OH&S signs … I may need to move in. Nice grassy sites. Ample, clean amenities. Cool, friendly neighbours. Hmmm … tempting stuff. The common sense approach wins me over every time!
The kids evaporated in the pools general direction and returned about 7:30 with tales to tell. The pool is huge, the spa works, there’s a bistro that is reasonably priced. Crazy stuff !!
Dinner tonight is Red Curry Chicken and MOST IMPORTANTLY the BEERS ARE COLD!!!
Big day tomorrow as there is plenty to do in Katherine and we’ve only got one day. We’re rethinking our schedule a little bit though. Instead of spending the next 3 days in Kakadu we might spread them across Katherine, Edith Falls and Litchfield National Parks instead and do Kakadu after Darwin … or vice versa.
Basically, Darwin is the last spot we’ve got booked and ANYTHING could happen once we leave there.
