A bit of a quiet day here today.  We went and had a look at the Mirima National Park, but since we’d left it until late in the day, like 9am, it was already too hot in there.  There’s just no shade and the wind whips through the hills.  Very pretty place, it’s kind of like a mini bungle bungles.

We came back to the van via Coles.  The kids wanted milk shakes, but they were $7.50.  So being the cheapskate I am, we went and got flavoured milks from Coles instead for $2.50.  Unfortunately, the savings got blown on a lemon cheescake … but there ya go.

We also went and had a look at the Kununurra Swim Beach, but the sign warning of the crocs there made us long for the park pool instead.

Back at the park, the kids vanished in the pools general direction and Kel left me to wash the car.  Nice.  It’s a bit of a pointless exercise, but I tried to wash the car anyway.  The water is a bit dirty, cloudy and full of calcium.  The combined effect with the heat up here is pretty much just to move the red mud around.  I think I made some improvement though, but not much.

Kel came back and helped wash the van and that was quite a bit more successful.  She had a go with the vacuum too and tried to get some of the red dust from inside the cupboards.  I think the vacuum may just have sucked it up and blown it everywhere in the van again though … we’ll see in the morning.  The dust is sooo fine, it gets everywhere.

First trip to the hardware store was to find a replacement doormat.

Second trip to the hardware store was to try and find a replacement potra potti.  We’ve somehow managed to break a second one. Make of that what you will.

The late afternoon was spent trying to repair the tank … because we’re up shit creek without it.  We spent the afternoon chasing one down in Kununurra with no joy.  Not expecting to find one in Katherine or Kakadu either, so the next couple of days may be a bit primitive.  Surely there’ll be one in Darwin.

The very late afternoon was still spent trying to repair the tank.  Time will tell how the repair goes, but I don’t think it’ll work too well.  The late porta potti disaster mucked up our other plans for the afternoon, but its better we found out about the problem before its too late.

Moving again tomorrow, to Katherine.
