We got up bright and early, as usual, even though we didn’t have very far to go today.  It was only 160kms and the plan was to get there, drop the van and go and explore Kalbarri National Park.

That was the plan anyway …

Nearly forgot … Go Cats!!!!!!

Unfortunately, due to the rain, the main attraction was closed.  The track in to Nature’s Window and The Loop is a 26km, rutted, corrugated track … it wouldn’t be pretty after the unseasonal downpours we’ve seen lately.

Undaunted we had a look around at the other things that Kalbarri has to offer.  This may have turned out to be a bit of a blessing as we found the Rainbow Jungle Parrot Sanctuary and plenty of other bluffs, gorges and short walks.

Rainbow Jungle is pretty darned good!  Predominantly Australian birds are on show, but there are also a few exotic ones too.  Just about every variant of Lorikeet and Rosella are there, as are all the different Cocky’s.  With all these parrots around you can expect a few show ponies.

There was a sulphur crested cocky called Hamish that was a bit of a character.  He talked a bit but was also a bit of a show-off.  He wanted to shake hands, but I’m not that silly.  I did give him a scratch and some flowers to play with though.

There’s also an open air aviary where all the birds just love to whizz by you.  I think most of them were ‘Blake’ Rosellas since they all seemed to delight in making Hannah scream and jump around with ants in her pants.  The rest of the scenery here is pretty pleasant too, with a huge variety of flora and water features.  A lovely place and they obviously care for all the birds wonderfully.

After that we had a bit of a drive around looking at some of the seaside formations.  The weather had again turned at this stage, so our forays into nature were limited to those within running distance of the car.  We even spotted a few Humpback Whales too.

A final stock up of beer and wine before we head Northwards in earnest.  Hopefully into temperatures in which we’ll be able to put them to good use.

Caravan park here is lovely and the whole place would be spectacular … WEATHER PERMITTING … *sigh*
