Today started after an ample sleep in until 7:30. Not bad for us gypsy folk.
We didn’t have much planned, but needed to get some washing and shopping done .. or else we’d starve and be naked. The washing was easy enough, but the shopping required a detour to the court house market.
This is a market to rival the famous Eumundi market and it’s not bad. It’s not as big, but there’s plenty of variety and unique product available. Kel got herself a new hat and Hannah grabbed a necklace shaped like our beloved Poppie. The kids got some Apple icy poles and Dad got the bill.
Then we took a stroll down the main street of old Broome (Chinatown) and got to see Sun Pictures in the daylight. Unfortunately the place was closed due it being a Saturday. We found a very special general store that had a bit of absolutely everything in it. We actually got a couple of compression sacks from there to pack our unneeded winter clothes in 😉
The hated chore of food shopping (with kids) had to be done and the local Coles was as good a place as any. Hannah got the job of pushing the trolley around and Blake got the job of annoying his sister (and everybody else). Undaunted, Kel proceeded to get that trolley filled with good stuff. $400 plus bottle shop later we were outta there.
We mostly went our separate ways after that. Kel needed some space to get the shopping squirreled away. The kids needed to be drenched in the pool and I needed to be far from Kel. She was on a food packing mission and it’s best to be well out of earshot.
Soon enough she also came to join us at the pool and, for a change, it was other kids that were acting up. There is a family of 8 here (also in an Expanda) and 4 brothers were trying to kill each other in the pool. Makes a nice change to know that it’s not just our two that can’t get along in paradise.
After the swim, it was time to get ready for the sunset camel train ride. This was with Broome Camel Tours, the blue camels. There’s 3 companies vying for the business here and, for us, these guys were the best value.
When it came time to get on the camels though I found that there was just no way that my legs were going to bend the way the saddle required and had to get on the front instead of the back. It was a bit weird, but I just couldn’t fit … much to the hilarity of my caring family.
Once in place though all was good. Blake and Hannah scored the lead camel and Kel & I were on #2. Again we get the front seats …
It was good to take the time to see all the sunset activity on Cable Beach. Heaps of families having BBQ’s and a HUGE game of beach footy with about 10 under 8’s per team going at it. The obligatory nude folk, as it’s a nude beach too. The longest nude beach in the world. One poor couple trying to have a romantic wine watching the sunset … with 12 smelly camels toting tourists waddling past … but that’s Broome. Live and let live … and get a giggle out of it.
Dinner was supposed to be Turkey Taco’s … which was weird enough that we all ended up with noodle cups instead. I may yet have nightmares of the dinner that never was.
