Last day at El Questro today.  We started out late and didn’t end up doing much.

Kel & I went up to the station to get some washing done … and that was about it.

The day was spent pottering around the van, lazing in the sun, floating down the river, catching up on the diaries.  Not much!  Until the afternoon, anyway…

River crossing near our campsite

Track up to Saddleback Ridge that we did on Day 1

Campsite viewed from the river crossing

After spending most of the day doing nothing we were feeling a little guilty and thought that we really should do something.  That something ended up being tackling one of the 4wd tracks in the area.  There was a challenging one leading out to Branco’s lookout and Explosion Gorge.  So that’s what we did.

Yep, this was a great idea

'Road' goes through there somewhere

Past the El Questro homestead.

Then there’s a deeply rutted soft sandy section followed by a steep rocky climb up to Branco’s lookout.

At Mum’s suggestion we continued on towards Explosion Gorge.  This meant another 6km of rough as guts track to get to the gorge itself.  Then on dusk, we had to retrace our steps.

Nothing broken on the Prado despite the numerous bottom outs and sharp rocks.

Sitting around the campfire though I think we were visited by the spirit of a past El Questro bull.  Check out the image of the smoke in the photo.  I took the photo 4 times and the image is there in all four.  A bit spooky!!!
