Waking up to a fog free day, we were rapidly packed up and on the road. We took the opportunity to have a quick wash of the van too before we left.
An uneventful drive saw us arrive in Broome at about 12:30 … with nowhere to stay. We’d called nearly all of the parks when we were in Port Hedland without success. All full up. A couple of fresh calls today though was successful in securing our patch of dirt for a night.
Broome Caravan Park, just a short way out of town, is our base for the day. Kel and the kids were drawn to the pool. Kel was happy to sit by the pool and sms with her iPhone. Her phone hasn’t had signal since Perth and she was suffering withdrawals.
I moseyed on into town in search of a few parts. This was another lesson in fruitlessness. I did manage to find one thing I needed for the car that would normally be about $20 at home, but here was $100. Not happy, but its necessary. All the other stuff I needed to find, such as wire and a couple of plugs weren’t to be found anywhere. In particular I waited in line at Dick Smith for 10 minutes to buy a cable … only to have the two twits behind the counter fuss around doing nothing useful. I gave up and left them to it. There has to be an electrical parts place somewhere in town, but today I remain defeated.
Today is the last day for the Stairway to the Moon. This is where the moon rises over the tidal flats of Roebuck bay. Tonight this was due to happen at 8:33. We went and had dinner while we waited for the main event. We haven’t been eating out much this trip so it was a bit of a treat.
Kel & I had the fish of the day, Barramundi. Hannah had a huge bowl of pumpkin soup and Blake had a huge bowl of spaghetti. We all had sweets too. Hannah & I, being chocaholics, tried out the two mud cakes available. Blake chose an apple pie and Kellie had a plate of sorbet.
We rolled out of there just in time to see the moon rise.
I didn’t think it was as spectacular as the sunset at Eighty Mile Beach although they were quite similar events.
