Since we’d already booked Port Lincoln we didn’t feel the need to hurry there and took our time. We had a bit more of a look around Port Augusta and spent an hour or so in the Wadlata Outback Centre. This was well worth doing. The place is full of history, both Aboriginal and European.
Once we got on the road we again settled on 90kmh and made good progress. Plenty of vans coming the other way but I don’t think we’ve passed, or been passed by, another van going our way yet. Go you mighty Prado!
We had lunch at Cowell and tried to find some nearby geocaches without luck … and that was with one of the local cachers giving us some hints. We were trying to inconspicuously find one hidden on a gun mounted in a roundabout when a car stopped halfway through it to have a chat … “Ahhh Geocaching I see!” Busted! Not a lot to see or do in Cowell and we are coming to dread the prices at the country bakeries. Bit of lunch, bit of a walk, bit of a hunt and …
Next stop was Port Lincoln Tourist Park and wow what a view. Nestled on the side of a hill with terraced sites going right down to the beach. There’s a good camp kitchen and facilities too.
We were lucky enough to nab a spot right on the beachfront … and just check out the view from the caravan door!
Right next to the playground too, which was good news, as it got the kids out of our hair. The afternoon sugar rush was in full swing and they had energy that needed burning … and Kel’s not learning!
I took the opportunity to make some better repairs on the damaged stabiliser leg, but it’s still not right. I may need to completely remove it to sort it out properly. The locking pins are just not locking… I did at least get the replacement foot attached and I think I’ll replace all of them when I get the time as the new ones theoretically help keep the ants out.
… and then I came back inside to put the toolbox away to see that the increased water pressure here had completely split the water hose in the van. Grrrr. The repair tape was doing a good job but there was a ton of water seeping out. I’ll need to get that fixed properly tomorrow.
There was another Expanda next to ours with Kirstie, Simon, Darcy and Emma on board. The kids hit it off, as did the adults and we were all chatting, until quite late, up in the camp kitchen. It turns out they were booked on the same tour as us the next day which will keep things interesting.
It’s mighty chilly here and the rooftop heater is next to useless, so we busted out the big gun heater and that soon chased away the cold.
Big day tomorrow!
