The first full day in Bali started out bright and early.  Too early, as it turned out, since nothing was open by the time we headed out to prowl the shops.

We had brekky at the hotel overlooking the ocean and watched all the early morning joggers go past while we scoffed down omelettes, pancakes, fruits and breads with juices, milkshakes and coffees.

With nothing much open we were able to look at all the menus in peace and get a feel for where future lunches and dinners would be obtained.  Such is the way in Bali … you just move from eatery to watering hole to eatery to bed.

After a good walk down the main drag we stumbled across the Sanur Beach Market.  Hannah got her hair braided and nails painted, Blake got his massage, Kellie went ballistic and bought tons of clothes and I just had a coffee and footed the bill.  No need for a watch.  If hungry, find food.  If thirsty, find beer.  If dark, find bed.

Last night we had an ‘uh oh’ moment when none of our cards worked in the ATM’s here, but no such trouble this morning.  It does feel a bit weird withdrawing 3,000,000 at a time, but that’s inflation for ya.

By the time we got back from the morning shop it was time for lunch, so we tried on a few of the new purchases and then stepped out looking a bit more like we’d been here awhile.  The tans and clothes tend to make the locals not pester you quite as much.

We found a nice spot for lunch on our way to the supermarket.  More satays, gado gado, chicken schnitzel, sandwiches and beer, juices and milkshakes.  I think I’ll leave the food descriptions out for awhile since it looks like the pattern has already been set.

The supermarket turned out to be a 3 level department store with just about everything in it.  At least it gives a good idea about what the prices should be when bartering out in the street.  We grabbed some stuff to stock the fridge with too … and some nibblies.

Kel and Hannah picked up a pair of sunnies each and they’ve been sitting around the pool like divas in them all afternoon.  Both Blake and Hannah have also took some relaxation time in the bath and read some of their books in peace.  This made a great change from them killing each other in the pool.

Quite likely an early night tonight as this relaxation caper can be very tiring.
