Not up quite so early today.  I think we managed a sleep-in until about 7am.

An early morning float in the river before breakfast and a bit of a sun soak saw us getting ready to start the days activities about 10am.

Today we headed off to see Emma Gorge.  Its a fairly long walk into the gorge itself and at least half of it has no shade.  Once you get to the first little trickle of water across the path though your ankles really thank you.  The path itself, up until that point, was loose river rocks and it gets your ankles working.

From there the track starts to go up a bit steeper and its more of a rock scramble.  The vegetation changes to tropical and eventually opens up to the gorge itself.

Enough of my 1000 words … check out the pictures!

Emma Gorge is fed by a large waterfall on the left, a smaller waterfall on the right (that just sends a sprinkle of fine drops down everywhere) and also a hot spring, from a crack in the rock on the right.

We had a well deserved drink at the Emma Gorge Resort on the way back.

Back to the van to frock up for dinner … after a short stopover to collect some firewood and yet another dip in the river.  We were all having great fun on the rope and floating around … until Hannah spotted the croc!

Well, she reckons it was a croc.  I couldn’t find any sign of anything.  I’m guessing it was a Pandanus leaf.  There’s plenty of these here and the way they float down the river in conjunction with Hannah’s imagination meant that I had the river to myself for the rest of the afternoon.

Tonight we have a night out at the Station.  A local guitarist, Chris Matthews, was there to entertain us … and he was really good.  We also had a gourmet BBQ lined up with Barra, Steak, Chicken, you name it, on offer.

Chris was joined for awhile by two of the rangers for a bit of an impromptu guitar trio.  Chris was on the Banjo by this stage doing decidedly non-banjoey songs.  All really entertaining stuff.
